DOLPHIN COTTAGE'S PLACE IN LYME REGIS

Dolphin Cottage is one of the iconic and historic Grade II Listed bright pink & thatched cottages on the promenade in Lyme Regis.  It is situated at the Cobb End of the terrace with a south westerly aspect and phenomenal views of Lyme Bay. It is the only cottage in the thatched terrace to have a private patio with unrivalled views.  The patio is set above the promenade below and affording a degree of privacy.

 

Dolphin Cottage is a prominent feature on postcards of Lyme Regis, works of arts, boxes of biscuits and local tourist brochures.  It is right on the beach front and central to local activities, shops, pubs & restaurants.

 

Constructed around 1800 of local Blue Lias stone, the cottage retains many of its original features and has been extensively modernized internally in recent years including new a bathroom and a kitchen.

In the 1400s, Lyme Regis was one of the largest ports in England.  Merchandise landed at the Cobb, Lyme Regis's ancient harbour, was  transported along Marine Parade (previously know as  The Walk) in front of Dolphin Cottage to Cobb Gate where tolls and import duties would be collected.

GREAT FOR FAMILY HOLIDAYS

Dolphin Cottage is perfect self-catering accommodation for a family of four or two couples sharing.

 

For the enjoyment and safety of everyone, one should not that Dolphin Cottage is  200 years old.  The structure is higgledy piggledy and the floors upstairs slope towards the sea! Some of the rooms are small and some have a low ceiling.  Individuals over about 5ft 11” in height may have to duck to pass through one or two of the internal doors.

​

The front edge of the private terrace has a low fence with a steep drop over the other side on the promenade.  Due to the risk of a fall, children under the age of 8 years must be accompanied at all times while on the terrace.

 

For those who find it harder to get around or  find stairs a challenge, Jill’s Bedroom, the Main Bathroom, the Lounge and the Terrace are all on one level.  One needs to be able to climb the stairs to get to the first floor.  The kitchen and Dining Room are on the Ground Floor.

 

The private parking space is a 400 yard walk from the property, mainly on the flat with one short, up-hill stretch.  It is possible to temporarily park directly in front of the cottage on the Cart Road while you are loading and unloading baggage.

The main stairs rise from the kitchen to the first floor landing where there is the:

The Back Door leading to the Private Terrace featuring:
